Manual choke refit
How hard would it be to take the choke assembly for a DMTR and install it on the Elektronac? I can't afford to replace my whole carb at the price they are fetching on ebay, but I may be able to order the choke assembly as parts.

Cant be done, carbs are not same in construction..fix your choke, connect it on 12v on ignition and it should work just fine

Re: Manual choke refit
You need to fabricate your own conversion for Elektronac to manual chocke. When you open el. choke, you will see what to do, it is not to complicated. BUt the best thing is o repair el. choke.
Re: Manual choke refit
Well, it's like this: I'll be driving along and all of a sudden the engine will start pulling much harder. If I step on the clutch the engine will rev very fast. A tap of the toe on the gas pedal and it will idle normally again.
Right now I have a wire running directly from the battery for the electric choke, but it still does the same thing... Though not as frequently. I'm pretty sure the idle stop is moving and capturing the throttle. That swinging idle stop is my only real gripe about the design of the car. Most carburetors here have a solid idle stop on the body of the carb, and the high idle is engaged with a cam. That system is much less prone to unpredictable behavior.
My next guess is to find some way to lock the idle stop in position, and drive to or from work. I could very well have assembled some part of the choke mechanism incorrectly; I had to take it off to dip the carb back in June... Though I don't remember having that much trouble with it then. The carb dip would have eaten the plastic parts in the choke assembly. I had to take the rivets out to get inside and unscrew the choke from the body of the carb.
I'm really anxious to find a cause, because not being able to let out of the throttle quickly makes it hard to drive on slick roads. I'm sure clutching and resetting the idle often isn't good for my clutch either.
I generally prefer mechanically operated stuff over anything that does something automatically, but I can live with the choke if I can get it to stop setting itself while I'm driving.

Re: Manual choke refit
I took the electric choke apart and wired the idle stop so it couldn't move. Drove home with no problems. It's definitely the choke assembly. Now I just have to figure out how to make it work right. It was causing trouble even hooked directly to the battery.

I want to be able to fix it with bubblegum and haywire, like I can now.

Re: Manual choke refit
Finally found the problem. There is supposed to be a spring between the idle stop lever and the choke lever. It was gone.
